A U.S. Marine Corps engineer with Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS 274) cuts a piece of 2 x 4 plywood while conducting installation improvements at Santa Elena, Petén 'Base Aérea del Sur', (Air Force Base South). The engineers with MWSS 274 are attached to U.S. Marine Corps Forces, South’s Detachment Martillo. Elements of the squadron, along with other units from II Marine Expeditionary Force and MARFORSOUTH are participating in Operation Martillo. Operation Martillo is an operation led by Joint-Interagency Task Force-South, of the U.S. Southern Command, and is designed to help stem the flow of narcotics through Central America and its Pacific and Caribbean coasts by denying transnational criminal organizations littorals used for illicit trafficking.
