U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Nolan McShane, a light armored reconnaissance unit leader with the Personnel Exchange Program in Chile, and a native of Wisconsin, translates range commands for Cabo Segundo Diego Alonso, a marine with Cuerpo de Infanteria de Marina (Chilean marine corps) during a multinational marksmanship range as part of exercise UNITAS 2025 at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Sept. 23, 2025. UNITAS, which is Latin for “unity,” was conceived in 1959 and has taken place annually since first conducted in 1960.
