Salvadoran Marines use a compass to help them complete a land navigation course on Plaza De Armas training area. Sgt. Mark Miller assigned to the Marine Corps Detachment (MARDET) embarked aboard High Speed Vessel (HSV 2) Swift walks behind them as an observer. The two Marine Corps are participating in a three-week partnership that includes land navigation, weapons training and martial arts training, as part of HSV-Southern Partnership Station 2012 (HSV-SPS 12). HSV-SPS 12 is an annual deployment of U.S. ships to the U.S. Southern Command area of responsibility in the Caribbean, Central and South America.
