Staff Sgt. Jimmie Fernandez uses his machete to cut away at the center of a tree to gather the portion of it that can be eaten to sustain life while in the jungles of Puerto Barrios on Nov. 28. Members of the Guatemalan special forces shared their survival tactics as part of a subject matter expert exchange (SMEE). SPMAGTF is participating in Amphibious-Southern Partnership Station 2012 (AMPHIB-SPS 12), an annual deployment of SMEE teams sent to U.S. Southern Command's area of responsibility.
