Later that evening the Wounded Warriors enjoyed some camaraderie as they dined with service members from both commands before attending a playoff match between the Miami Heat and Chicago Bulls, May 24, where they were honored with a ceremony before the game.

Hamill served with 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines in the Helmand Province, Afghanistan when he was struck by an improvised explosive device while conducting a dismounted patrol. The Wounded Warriors flew into Miami from Washington, D.C. where they toured both the U.S. Southern Command and U.S. Marine Corps Forces, South. Their visit to Miami culminated in a courtside ceremony honoring them at the Miami Heat vs. Chicago Bulls playoff match.

The instruction was part of a three-day jungle warfare training package conducted by BDF Jungle Warfare Instructors during exercise Tradewinds 2011. Tradewinds is a joint-combined, interagency exercise involving U.S. personnel from the Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Army, Navy, Air Force, National Guard, Joint-interagency Task Force-South, Naval Criminal Investigative Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation along with forces from Antigua and Barbuda (host nation), Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Colombia, Dominica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Panama, St. Kitts-Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Suriname, Trinidad-Tobago.

Members of both units helped to maintain communication between multiple training sites and command centers during Tradewinds, an exercise designed to increase and enhance security and inter-operability in the Caribbean.
