Brigadier General Juan Ayala, Chief of Staff, U.S. Southern Command, visits with the Wounded Warriors during their visit to U.S. Southern Command and U.S. Marine Corps Forces, South. Later that evening the Wounded Warriors enjoyed some camaraderie as they dined with service members from both commands before attending a playoff match between the Miami Heat and Chicago Bulls, May 24, where they were honored with a ceremony before the game.

Hamill served with 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines in the Helmand Province, Afghanistan when he was struck by an improvised explosive device while conducting a dismounted patrol. The Wounded Warriors flew into Miami from Washington, D.C. where they toured both the U.S. Southern Command and U.S. Marine Corps Forces, South. Their visit to Miami culminated in a courtside ceremony honoring them at the Miami Heat vs. Chicago Bulls playoff match.
