About

UNITAS, the world’s longest-running annual multinational maritime exercise, is dedicated to strengthening regional partnerships and fostering new relationships through the exchange of maritime expertise; enabling participating forces to conduct joint maritime operations, including littoral warfare, multi-domain operations, sea basing, and amphibious operations. By focusing on complex operational environments and Expeditionary Advance Base Operations (EABO), UNITAS enhances interoperability and capability among naval and marine forces globally.

   
UNITAS LXV
Allied and partnered nations conduct multilateral training during UNITAS LXV in Chile, Sept. 2 - 12, 2024. UNITAS, hosted by Chile this year, is the world’s longest-running annual multinational maritime exercise that focuses on enhancing interoperability among multiple nations and joint forces during littoral and amphibious operations in order to build on existing regional partnerships and create new enduring relationships that promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the U.S. Southern Command’s area of responsibility. UNITAS, which is Latin for “unity,” was conceived in 1959 and has taken place annually since first conducted in 1960. Marines support Operation Martillo
Marines with Detachment Martillo talk to one another while setting up communication equipment on the Fuerza Espesciales Naval’s 32-foot Boston Whaler Justice boats. The FEN is a section of the Guatemalan Navy special operations. The Marines with the detachment have been working with the FEN and other units within the Guatemalan military over recent weeks to coordinate for their part in Operation Martillo. Detachment Martillo, under operational control of U.S. Marine Corps Forces, South, is comprised of a number of units from II Marine Expeditionary Force. Operation Martillo is an operation led by Joint-Interagency Task Force-South, of the U.S. Southern Command, and is designed to help stem the flow of narcotics through Central America and its Pacific and Caribbean coasts by denying transnational criminal organizations littorals used for illicit trafficking.
