ABOUT UNITAS 2022

UNITAS (Latin for “UNITED”) is the oldest and largest maritime exercise in the region.  It began in 1959 as a South American and U.S. regional exercise designed to demonstrate a united stance against the spread of the Soviet Union’s influence and presence in Latin America.  The exercise continues to be the most important naval exercise in the U.S. Southern Command AOR promoting partnership and demonstrating U.S. importance and commitment to the region.

Brazilian Marine Corps Vice Admiral Pedro Luiz Gueros Taulois visits U.S. Marine Corps Support Facility, New Orleans, Louisiana

Vice-almirante fuzileiro naval (Brazilian Marine Corps major general) Pedro Luiz Gueros Taulois, Commanding General of Personnel Command, is welcomed by the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Reserve Band during his visit to the Marine Corps Support Facility, New Orleans, Louisiana, Nov. 8, 2023. The Brazilian Naval Infantry and the U.S. Marine Corps work closely together to address evolving security challenges and protect common interests in an ever-changing world.
