ABOUT UNITAS 2022

UNITAS (Latin for “UNITED”) is the oldest and largest maritime exercise in the region.  It began in 1959 as a South American and U.S. regional exercise designed to demonstrate a united stance against the spread of the Soviet Union’s influence and presence in Latin America.  The exercise continues to be the most important naval exercise in the U.S. Southern Command AOR promoting partnership and demonstrating U.S. importance and commitment to the region.

NASSAU, Bahamas (March 10, 2009) - A Naval Criminal Investigative Services special agent fingerprints a Woodcock Primary School student, to include in her identification kit. NCIS, in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy, Nassau, provided identification kits to more than 200 students at the primary school. The agents, out of the NCIS South East Field Office, Jacksonville, Fla., are on the island with Exercise Tradewinds 2009, providing training to law enforcement which will support maritime security in the Caribbean Basin. Tradewinds 09 is a Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff directed, U.S. Southern Command-sponsored exercise that is conducted in cooperation with Caribbean Basin partner nations. (Photo by Staff Sgt.
