Marine to be awarded for saving lives in Afghanistan helicopter crash

A Marine with Marine Corps Embassy Security Group will be awarded the highest non-combat decoration for heroism in the Marine Corps during an award ceremony set for 1 p.m. at Oakland Park City Hall, June 23.

 

Brig. Gen. Kevin M. Iiams, the commander of U.S. Marine Corps Forces, South, will present Gunnery Sgt. Geann Pereira, a native of Mantena, Brazil, with the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for his efforts to save the air crew of a helicopter that crashed in Afghanistan in October 2015.
